Class I

Objectives: Introduce new members to fire explorering and the fire service.

1. Orientation
A. Identify FFD, and the BSA Explorering organizational structure.
B. Identify FFD shift schedule
C. Explain FFD and post rules and regulations
D. Discuss basic duties of firefighters.
E. Explain the need for public relations.
F. Know how to complete training and Explorer post records.

2. Safety
A. Learn and demonstrate proper use of firefighter bunker gear.
B. Learn and Identify on scene safety hazards.
C. Learn general safety precautions

3. Appartus Orientation
A. Identify different types of appartus and basic supplies carried.

4. Fire Science
A. Explain fundamentals of combustion
B. Explain the methods of heat transfer
C. Define spontaneous combustion, ignition temperature, and flash point.
D. Identify classes of fire

5. Communications
A. Identify radio procedures and unit identifiers
B. Follow proper telephone answering procedures.

Class II

Objectives: Provide the fire Explorer with the basic skills and techniques in accordance with FFD standards and terminology.

1. Tools and Equipment
A. Basic tools and equipment on fire appartus.
B. How to inspect and maintain equipment.

2. Hose Lines and Appliances
A. Types of hose, nozzles and fittings.
B. How to inspect, test, and care for hose and couplings.
C. Types of hose loads.
D. How to operate hose appliances.
E. How to make and brake hose connections.
F. How to operate a hose clamp.
G. How to connect hard suction.
H. How to roll and unroll hose.

3. Hose Lays
A. How to lay and advance attack lines and large diameter hose.
B. How to lay a reverse lay (single and duel).
C. How to lay a forward lay (single and duel).
D. how to pull booster line.

4. Ladders
A. Types and parts of ladders.
B. How to inspect and care for ladders.
C. How to carry, raise, and lower ladders.
D. How to climb, lockin, and work off ladders.
E. How to use roof and attic ladders.

5. Ropes and Knots
A. Types of rope.
B. How to inspect and care for rope.
C. how to tie basic firefighting knots.

6. First Aid
A. Basic information gathering.
B. How to provide standard first aid.
C. How to preform basic life support (CPR).

7. Water Systems and Supply
A. Water mains and hydrants.
B. How to operate a hydrant.
C. Tender operations and water shuttles.

8. Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
A. Types of SCBA.
B. How to inspect and care for SCBA.
C. How to don SCBA.
D. How to change SCBA bottle.
E. How to conduct search and rescue operations.

Class III

Objectives: Provide the Explorer with the manipulative skills and technical knowledge necessary to preform as a memeber of an in-service fire company.

Fire Department Recruit class or,
